Working on MG Ferrari F1-2000 front and rear wing
Saturday, April 26, 2008, 08:03 PM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
I got a little time this Sat and worked on the MG F1-2000 front and rear wing.

The resin surface is horribly rough... :O :O :O.. It will take me weeks to get the surface smoothened out... tough job..

Here are all the original parts. You can see the rough casting.

After heavy sanding with Tamiya 600 grits sandpaper. Still a lot of holes and scratches here and there...

After a layer of Plastiko automotive primer sprayed on, more artifacts shown... Hmmm alot of filling and sanding will follow..

It will be a while before these parts are ready for painting.

Minardi M193 won 2008 IPMS Kickoff Classis awards
Sunday, April 20, 2008, 09:32 AM - Minardi M193
I took my just-finished Minardi M193 to IPMS Kickoff Classics model contest yesterday at Santa Clara. The car is really lucky to win several awards, including Best of Show award. I really appreciate judges paid attention to my work and likes my work eventhough the car is only a curbside conversion.

There are a lot of entries this year than last and the show is great! For this year award, I think I am just plain lucky... because I spot a stunning, super detailed modern civilian vehicle on the show. It is Tamiya Ferrari 360 Modena built by Mark Rawling. You can trace this link in AF.com to see how he built this super Ferrari.. I too think Mark's work should have won him the Best Auto and even Best of Show award yesterday. This is the best modern civilian vehicle model I have seen in the past 10+ years. Just a bad luck for Mark yesterday.

Mark, do bring your Ferrari to Tamiya/Con next year. I think your work will bring you a trip to Japan.

MG F1-2000 Steering Wheel done.
Saturday, April 12, 2008, 04:15 PM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
Alright, finally got the steering wheel done. I put on S27 CF decal on the wheel body and Modelers CF decal on the paddle shifter. The main steering body is then clearcoated with Gunze gloss topcoat (total of 3 coats) and paddler shifter is coated with Gunze semi-gloss topcoat. Finally everything is put together with 30min epoxy glue. Since everything is white metal, it is quite heavy, so epoxy glue is the only choice.

Buttons are re-created from styrene rod and the dials are PE washer. Too bad that the kit does not supply dial's decal, so I have to go for the hard way and hand brush the color on.

Next, I need to deal with big piece of resin.... I think I am going to glue the main parts together first, then test fit all the suspension arms to make sure all 4 tires can sit on the ground.

More progress on MG F1-2000 Steering Wheel
Saturday, April 5, 2008, 08:36 PM - MG 1/12 F1-2000
Alright, while my wife is helping me in filing tax, I get some time to work on the steering wheel again.

I use thinned putty to fill up all the scars on the white metal steering wheel and give some sanding. Then I spray sandable automotive primer on top of it to inspect the surface. Repeat the process 2 times.

Now the result is good and ready to semi-gloss black.

I spray SMS Faux texture on the wheel grips and then Testors flat black.

Ok, main components are painted with Tamiya semi gloss black and is ready for CF decal. I put some sample Perfect Parts washer to mimic the dials.
